The power of having fun on a headshot shoot.

I would say, the best headshot of yourself is the one picture that says just who you are. Your personality and demeanor is what tells that story.

There are other elements in the mix that need consideration, such as company branding, the location, the background set, and lighting style. Even time of day can be a needed consideration when prepping for a headshot shoot.

For many people, being in front of a camera can be a little uncomfortable. And when someone feels uncomfortable, they’ll project that tone through the picture. I have a little tactic that solves that.

I believe that it’s important to have a little fun while we shoot, and a great way is to start the shoot is by inspiring outgoing expressions for the first few photos. Outgoing poses are inspired by an action, facial expression and an emotion.

It’s a great way to let the person being photographed ease up a little. By making themselves chuckle, or even laugh, they naturally become more relaxed and begin enjoying the process. They feel good, and that shows.

There are a few great expressions we captured on a recent shoot.  Within this group we captured someone who landed their dream job, a villain (or hero), someone scared, a jailbird, and someone having a WTF moment.  Really, their expressions are perfect. I recently posted a few of these on our Instagram account so you can see.
